The popular Parallels virtualization app will gain a new version 15 update according to a new announcement.

The update will offer DirectX support thanks to Apple Metal as well as new features made possible thanks to macOS Catalina. Chief among those will be support for Sidecar.

The update will be the first to make use of Metal, allowing for an improved graphical performance when compared to previous releases. Parallels says that 3D graphics will be improved by 15% while standard apps like those that are part of the Microsoft Office suite will launch around 80% faster.

By adding support for the improved graphics via Metal, Parallels will be able to run more advanced apps such as Autodesk 3ds Max 2020 as well as games like Crysis 3. Other games were also called out including FIFA 19 and Fallout 4.

Following the release of macOS Catalina this fall, users will be a blessing to enjoy Sidecar support. With Sidecar users will be able to connect to an iPad and use Parallels there with support for Apple Pencil also included. Other macOS Catalina features will be part of the Parallels 15 update including deeper integration with macOS and its built-in apps.

Parallels 15 requires macOS 10.15 Mojave in order to function and it can be picked up for $99.99. There are more feature rich versions that are included in the $99/year Business and Pro subscriptions, too. There’s a 14-day free trial for anyone who wants to take the app for a spin first.
