We recently found out a smidgen of information about OnePlus upcoming new handset, the OnePlus 5. Following quickly on from that reveal, a Chinese retailer and GearBest appear to have slightly jumped the gun in listing the device for pre-order, providing the world with not only images of the new smartphone, but also internal specifications and pricing information.
The majority of consumers interested in the efforts of OnePlus would have expected to see a OnePlus 4, or similar, being announced. For one reason or another it has jumped straight to the OnePlus 5, which will be device offering a 5.5-inch display with significantly reduced bezels around the outside of the hardware and a pixel resolution sitting at 2560-by-1440.
The performance of the new OnePlus 5 will be driven by an internal 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-core clocked at 2.35GHz. An Adreno 540 GPU will sit alongside that with an accompanying 8GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. As likely expected, owners of the hardware will also be able to expand that internal storage with the addition of a microSD card. Dual SIM cards will also be accepted by the device with both slots compatible with 4G.
Camera wise OnePlus is bundling in a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera with a forward-facing 16-megapixel offering for those enhanced and pixel perfect selfies. There’s also a 4,000 mAh, non-removable battery cell offering up to 3 days’ standby time. That battery life is appended by the integration of USB-C technology with fast-charging, meaning that power will be diverted into that battery quicker than on a normal device.
The listings essentially give us an insight into the whole specification of the OnePlus 5. It also only shows the device as being available with a relatively boring Black exterior, so no fancy and vivid colors being offered in this one in the short-term.
The price is also listed as being available for $621.99, while GearBest has the global version of the device coming in at $688. However, there is a significantly reduced price of just $449.99 on the Chinese website for those who pre-order and make the purchase before the hardware actually becomes available for shipping.
There’s a whole heap of new information here, but the listings still neglect to actually show an official release date or when the hardware will physically be in the hands of consumers. We guess that is still yet to come.
