It seems that Apple may be getting ready to release Apple Pencil 2, with release date set for Spring launch, according to rumors coming out of the Asian supply chain.
It may not be the most exciting thing that Apple sells, but the Apple Pencil is an important accessory for those who make use of the iPad Pro. Bringing styli into the 21st century, the Apple Pencil lets users write and draw with accuracy on both the larger and smaller iPad Pro in a way that wasn’t previously possible with non-Pro iPads. Now, it seems that Apple may be getting ready to revise the Apple Pencil for the first time.
The story goes that Apple will unveil a new Apple Pencil alongside new iPad Pros – three new models, if previous rumors are to be given weight – possibly as soon as March of this year, and although little is known about both those iPad upgrades and the Apple Pencil itself, there are at least a couple of ways in which it could be improved.
Chief amongst those potential additions that we are sure users will be crying out for is some way in which to attach it to the iPad Pro itself. There have been patent applications in the recent past in which Apple laid out plans for an Apple Pencil with a built-in magnet, allowing the accessory to attach to an iPad for safekeeping.
Other non-physical changes would likely allow for increased responsiveness as well as accuracy, both of which would likely require new iPad Pro hardware to arrive alongside the updated stylus.
With almost no information available about what Apple has in store for the Apple Pencil, we look forward to seeing what the company does to make people upgrade, if indeed the new device does work with previous iPad Pros. With this being the first time the Apple Pencil has been revised in its lifetime, we’ll just have to wait and see.
March isn’t too far away, after all.
